Express Entry

Canada seeks to attract skilled workers from all over the world. The express entry program simplifies and speeds-up the migration process for professionals who possess the listed skills.

The program gives a long list of professional, managerial, and trade skills that are in demand in Canada. The list is updated regularly. All applications for express entry are made online, which places all aspirants on a level playing field.

To qualify for express entry an applicant should have worked for 1,560 hours or more in a part-time or full-time job in a listed skill category. Furthermore, the applicant must show evidence of language proficiency in English or French; preferably both.
For this, the Canadian immigration system recognizes various language testing systems.

Applicants get additional points for educational qualifications. However, certifications attained outside Canada must undergo an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). This process equates certificates attained in other countries to similar documents awarded by Canadian institutions. ECA is performed by designated organizations.

Finally, aspirants must furnish proof of having sufficient funds to live in Canada. This is easily done by supplying a bank statement. Express Entry applies to everywhere in Canada except Quebec. The province of Quebec has its own separate skilled worker express entry program.

Express Entry for Quebec

The province of Quebec has some additional immigration requirements. First, one must apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) from the government of Quebec.

Experienced, non-seasonal agricultural workers can apply for permanent residence in Canada up to May 2023. Applicants must have valid Canadian work experience or job offers for full-time, non-seasonal work in specific industries.

These include meat product manufacturing, greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, and animal production. Applicants must also meet specified language and education requirements, and prove that they have enough funds to settle in Canada.

Start-up Visa

This is a special visa category for immigrant entrepreneurs who can add value to the Canadian economy by founding new businesses. Entrepreneurs and their ideas are first assessed by the designated organizations. These include venture capital funds, angel investor groups, and business incubators in Canada.

They decide whether the applicants’ business plans are viable. The government provides letters of support to aspiring entrepreneurs whose ideas are approved. As usual language proficiency tests are mandatory.

It is important to note that the Canadian government does not offer financial support to migrants coming to Canada on start-up visas. Entrepreneurs must show proof of having enough funds to support themselves and their accompanying dependents.

Self-employed Professionals

Persons who are exceptionally talented in cultural pursuits and sports can apply via this program. They must pledge their willingness to contribute to the cultural and athletic achievements of Canada.

Such personas can move to Canada as self-employed residents. The self-employed program assesses applicants on the basis of their experience, education, age, language abilities, and adaptability. All applicants must also undergo a medical exam.

Caregivers

Immigrants can get permanent residence or temporary work in Canada as caregivers. Two programs currently facilitate permanent residence. These are the ‘Home Child Care Provider Pilot’ and the ‘Home Support Worker Pilot’.

To qualify for either, applicants must possess work experience as a full-time child care providers or home support workers in Canada. Qualifying applicants get work permits that are occupation-restricted, typically within caregiving.
