5 Best Ways to Stay Healthy in University

Let’s face it. Not everything in college or university writing depends on your knowledge or your abilities to do in-depth-research, analyze information, and get it into a well-thought-out essay. In many cases, it all depends on the energy you have left to do the job.

Even the smartest students with the best record can fail when their energy drops. To keep yourself on your toes, it is useful to remember about some methods which work no matter what.

Balance Your Activity and Relaxation Periods

Most of us like to write plans. In those plans, we eat healthy every day, work out five days per week, submit all papers on time, and those papers are of the highest quality. We also read a lot, are nice to strangers, and go to bed early.

All these plans vanish when facing reality. And the reality is — if you can’t balance your activity, you won’t be able to succeed. That is why it is very important to stop imagining yourself as a superhero and start planning not only your active time but also your rest. When the week starts, think about periods when you feel like there is no energy left. Most of the students name the middle of Wednesday or even Tuesday night.

Plan a pause for a Tuesday night, some leisure time that is not too active to tire you even more, but also different from just staring at your computer.

Fight Procrastination On a Daily Basis

Procrastination kills energy. It may sound a little strange, as while procrastinating, you are not completing your tasks, but procrastination is a truly tiring thing. When procrastinating, you don’t rest, first of all, because you can’t rest when feeling guilty.

Some psychologists call procrastination time a “guilty playground” — you get to play, but you can’t fully enjoy it. Also, when postponing something, we normally don’t rest. We get involved in a variety of activities, so we get tired of them too. Often, procrastination is caused by the extreme amount of assignments students have to deal with. You don’t know where to start, so you don’t start at all. Try mindful motivational techniques such as meditation, goal setting, and joining support groups online that encourage proactivity.

Don’t Forget About Nutrition

Nutrition is a valuable part of staying energetic, physically, and cognitively. You need to balance your food intake and acquire some healthy habits. Of course, we can advise you to change your food routine completely, eat whole foods, drink gallons of water, and forget about sweets, but it will hardly happen because reality is reality.

What you need to do, is to cut on gradually on sugars and fats, like them, especially in combination, cause mood swings and drops in energy level. Yes, at first, they make your productivity skyrocket for a little while, but it doesn’t last long enough to succeed in something meaningful, and later you feel much more down. The same goes for energy drinks.

Take Supplements When Required

Not every problem has a simple solution, but sometimes to increase the level of energy you need to take supplements. If it would be perfect if you could extract all those useful substances from food, but it is hardly realistic, especially if you are not eating from the farm.

So, consult with your doctor or another medical advisor available about such supplements as Omega-3, vitamin B group, etc. Don’t prescribe yourself any medication, even if you read some convincing articles online. The risk is not worth it.

Get a Hobby That Inspires You

Being inspired is almost equal to being energetic. Don’t be afraid that spending your time on something else rather than writing you will get too tired. If your hobby makes you more self-confident, engaged, inspired, it will have an overall positive effect on your life and on your writing performance.

A struggle to stay active and energetic is related not only to students but also to workers, managers, freelance working specialists, parents, everyone.

Monitor your physical and mental state to realize what makes you feel down and what brings joy and energy into your life.

  2. I’ve heard most of these tips before, except “taking supplements”.
I think I should start taking supplements as well because I barely enjoy food sold in school so I barely eat. There’s also little variety of food available in my school and I’m sure I’m lacking some vitamins or minerals.
I didn’t know how vitamins I was lacking till I started feeling sores in my mouth. I took a few tablets of Vitamin C for a couple of days and the sores healed
