Walking Boots

Hiking is a strenuous activity, and for this reason, you do need to make sure that you have some good quality walking boots with you. Your feet and legs will blister if you don’t, and you can reduce the chance of having sore feet when you have the right footwear. A good pair of hiking boots will give you a good level of ankle support. The style of boots you choose will be completely down to you, because you may prefer low-cut or even trail shoes. Either way, it helps to have some boots that are lightweight and also ones that have a waterproof lining. They need to be breathable as well, so take this into account.

Waterproof Jacket

If you are planning on going on a long trail such as the Machu Picchu hike then you have to take some kind of waterproof jacket with you. It helps to have a jacket that you can pack up small and fit in your rucksack. Some jackets even have under-arm ventilation and this is a great feature if you are going to be hiking in humid weather. Of course, when choosing your coat it helps to take into account the heat of the destination, if it’s going to be warm then a thinner coat may be more suitable.

Quick-Dry Trousers

If you’re hiking somewhere with the possibility of rain then it’s best to go for quick-dry or even waterproof trousers. Trousers that have a water-resistant layer are great for light showers and usually dry quick. If you’re likely to be caught up in heavy rain, it’s a great idea to take an outershell (waterproof) trousers. Outershell’s that pack up small and can be packed away in your backpack are convenient. Waterproof trouser’s are usually made from fabric such as gortex.
