Best Flying Tips for Pregnant Women

1. Determine the best time to travel

For most women who don’t have any significant complications during pregnancy, it’s safe to fly anytime at trimesters, however it’s it’s still good to plan appropriately to avoid any difficulties in the future.

If you are trying to figure out the best time to fly during your pregnancy, then fly in the second trimester as it’s generally considered as the ideal timeto fly.
The reason behind this, is that your body is more comfortable with the pregnancy after the first trimester is over, and any sickness you may have felt during that time. In the second trimester, you will be more prepared with what to do when you start to feel any sickness.
It’s not considered safe at all to travel in the third trimester even if you haven’t faced any complications during the first and the second one.

So, if you really want to travel, then choose the 14-ish weeks to fly to your favourite destinations.
International travels are usually not suggested in the last 28 weeks mark. It may cause a lot of complications for the mother as they have strict limitations during that time.

2. Upgrade to premium

No matter at what trimester you wish to travel, it’s always good to remember that safety is always most important. Now would be the perfect chance to pay additional charges to book the premium cabins, rather than economy.

You will want to make sure you are well hydrated during your flight and in premium you will be well looked after with plenty of drinks on offer to prevent dehydration. Premium seats are usually more spacious too so you can do regular stretches, and they’re usually closer to the restroom which will be very handy when flying during pregnancy.

When you are booking the tickets, it’s a good idea to opt for ticket insurance as you won’t be able to predict any sudden nausea that may stop you from flying on the planned flight.

If you are flying long-distance, try and get a direct flight rather than one with connections as you and your baby will need plenty of rest.

3. Take the doctor’s recommendations

Before you fly, it’s a good idea to visit your family doctor or an obstetrician who can let you know whether it’s safe to fly in your current situation. If you forgot to visit a doctor before flying, you could inquire whether the flight service provides medical assistance and you could discuss with staff members for peace of mind if you have any concerns.

Aeromexico flights are considered to be one of the safest airlines to travel with during pregnancy. The service they provide is commendable and they take extra care to those who are flying while pregnant. If you are flying after 7 months of being pregnant, Aeromexico (as do most airlines) requires a medical certificate stating that the passenger is fit to travel.

Once you reach the destination, it’s recommended that you visit a doctor to ensure everything is going smooth.

You may eat more during pregnancy so be prepared by taking some of your own snacks on the flight for example fresh fruits, nuts or salads. Carry these in a separate bag to make sure they get through TSA Security with no issues.

You can also carry an eye mask and travel pillow in your hand luggage to give you extra comfort during your flight.

This is kind of obvious and one of those things that you will probably already be doing during pregnancy in general, but a flight is a place where bacteria can easily spread due to everyone being in such close proximity. So prevent catching any illness by taking necessary precautions.

Carry a packet of tissues, antibacterial gel and always regularly wash your hands. You could also consider carrying a surgical mask with you as it provides more protection from the germs that transmit diseases such as cold, fever, dengue, and lots more.
