The Best Natural Hand Sanitizer

There was a time where one would never have guessed that the act of gifting a bottle of hand sanitizer would become a ‘new normal’.

Ever since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, we, as well as others, stocked up on various brands of hand sanitizer. From dollar store clip-on key-chain gels to homemade solutions with vinegar, we tried them all!

Our skin was tired of using harmful ingredients that are added to many conventional hand sanitizers such as peroxide, propanol, and many other unrecognizable chemicals that we couldn’t begin to pronounce.

The skin on our hands became coarse, cracked and dry and we’d almost given up until we found a charming little Herbal Apothecary at the foot of a mountainous town in British Columbia.

We spent the first six months of the pandemic living in a camper van around an hour North of Vancouver and it didn’t take us long to (literally) sniff out this gorgeous Soap Shoppe in small business haven, Squamish.

And so began our love affair with this town and all of its non-corporate, independent businesses. The town of Squamish is one of the outdoor adventure capitals of the world with renowned mountain climbing, kite surfing, biking, and hiking.

With its candid name of ‘Be Clean Naturally‘, we were very excited to explore the store’s offerings in our hunt for an effective holistic hand sanitizer with natural ingredients and we found the perfect one right at the heart of downtown Squamish.

Be Clean Naturally Soap Shoppe and Herbal Apothecary

Be Clean Naturally sell products that are made from the heart with only 100% natural ingredients.

The owner of the Be Clean Naturally brand is Kirstin French and she prides herself on using the finest natural ingredients for skin and body at her home base studio which is located at the back of the store.

Kirstin French, owner of Be Clean Naturally

Through adolescence, Kirstin failed to cure severe acne. She tried altering her diet, medication, and supplementation. While continuing her quest for a cure, she reached her early 30s when Kirstin met her soul mate who happened to be allergic to many synthetic fragrances and dyes.

While avoiding harmful fragrances and dyes, Kirstin realized her talent and turned this into a passion when she started to use homemade cleansers for bathing and laundering clothes for her partner.

Within just a few weeks, Kirstin’s acne had cleared up completely. She hasn’t looked back since and made a business out of it and Be Clean Naturally was born.

Kirstin also owns the neighboring Yoga and Meditation Boutique called Yoga Love.

Kirstin and her staff at Be Clean Naturally use 100% pure essential oils when scenting their products.

They offer wonderful concoctions of body care items as well as a wide variety of medicinal and herbal teas, organic seeds, holistic and pro-ayurvedic care items such as tongue scrapers, eco-friendly dental care, non-disposable items, and non-harmful cooking tools.

No dye is used in their soaps and packaging is kept to a minimum. All liquid items are sold in a refillable bottle and a discount is given when the bottle (or any container) is used for a refill.

A physical visit to Be Clean Naturally is strongly encouraged, even if only to enjoy the majestic scent!

Be Clean Naturally’s Natural Hand Sanitizer Review

It didn’t take us long to find what we were looking for when we entered Be Clean Naturally.

Kirstin and her staff have devised an enchanting and fresh-scented sanitizer spray. Each batch uses the same ingredients though the bottle may differ depending on supply.

The Ingredients

The main ingredients used in Be Clean Naturally’s natural hand sanitizer are locally sourced organic vodka, vegetable glycerin and a thieves oil mix.

The alcohol comes from organic potatoes that are grown at a distillery in Pemberton, a nearby local town. This famous distillery is also known as ‘Spud Valley’ and they do not use artificial or chemical additives, coloring or GMO products in their alcohol.

Kirstin uses 62% alcohol in the hand sanitizer and she adds glycerin to prevent the skin from drying out from the alcohol content. The essential oils that are added also add moisture to the skin.

Be Clean Naturally make their own thieves oil mixture with a unique ratio of clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary and lemon. Thieves Oil is said to boost the immune system, promote respiratory health, and fight microbes.

This fragrant blend leaves the skin feeling extra clean and fresh. The thieves oil mix and alcohol gives the hand sanitizer it’s antibacterial properties.

The spray smells good enough to eat, but it isn’t edible because the cinnamon, clove and alcohol are too strong to ingest and they’d burn the digestive system. But who wants to eat hand sanitizer anyway?

Bottle Sizes

There are different sizes of Be Clean’s natural hand sanitizer available depending on the needs of the customer.

The standard shelf size is an 80ml bottle which lasts around 1-2 months when used multiple times per day.

There’s also a 210ml bottle available for businesses and long term use.

If you’re looking for a natural hand sanitizer for commercial use, the shop can make a more economical mixture using isopropyl alcohol instead of the organic Pemberton vodka.
