1) See where it all began at Fremont Street

Dating back to 1905 when Las Vegas itself was founded, Fremont Street is the second most famous street in Las Vegas beneath the Las Vegas Strip.

Fremont Street is easily accessible by means of a public bus (hop on the Deuce Bus!) and it is an attraction that should not be missed.

Named in honor of explorer John Charles Frémont, Fremont Street is home to a corridor of Casinos that date back to the 1920s. There are many other free things to do on Fremont Street!

You will find Binion’s Horseshoe Casino, Four Queens, Fremont Hotel and Casino, Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, Golden Nugget, The Mint and many more wonderfully lit attractions.

The abundance of neon signs in the area earned Fremont Street the nickname of ‘Glitter Gulch’.

Fremont Street was the first paved street in Las Vegas and was fully complete in 1925.

2) See the World’s Largest Video Screen at Fremont Street

In 2002, the Fremont East Entertainment District (FEED) was created as an entertainment district in the heart of downtown Las Vegas in an effort to draw tourists away from the Strip and into the historic area.

The three-block renovation included street redesign, and retro-looking signage as well as the erection of the world’s largest video screen above the Fremont Street hotels and casinos.

Perhaps, the best thing about that Viagra generic is that it enhances the blood flow, which leads to a faster distribution of substances in the organism.

The video screen is the crown jewel of downtown Las Vegas and is known as the Viva Vision screen, It measures 1,500 feet long and 90 feet wide.

Of course, being the world’s largest video screen, it can also host the world’s largest Instagram wall displaying five football field’s worth of photos tagged with #FremontStreet on Instagram, many visiors partake in the fun. During March Madness, the Viva Vision screen is home to the world’s biggest NCAA championship bracket.

3) See the World’s Largest Slot Machine at Fremont Street

Of course, Las Vegas is home to the world’s largest slot machine! Another downtown attraction, the ‘Slotzilla’ slot machine is located on Fremont Street and the feature is also home to the busiest and most successful urban zip line in the world.

SlotZilla flies guests right through the top of Fremont Street, skimming beside the world’s largest video screen above. Riders can choose to sit as they would in a conventional zip line or fly superhero-style (on the Zoomline).

The Slotzilla zip line isn’t free but watching the riders scream their way through is!

4) Weigh yourself at the famous Heart Attack Grill

The Heart Attack Grill is a restaurant located in Downtown Las Vegas and the establishment has made headlines on several occasions for its controversial high-calorie menu items.

You can expect the world’s highest fat milkshakes and the Guinness Book of Records official highest calorie burger.

The menu items have been given deliberately provocative names from ‘Penis Pasta’ to the 8,000 calorie ‘Octuple Bypass burger’ and these are coupled with waitresses in provocative clothing.

The restaurant itself is hospital themed and the waitresses are ‘nurses’ that take ‘prescription’ orders and force you to wear a hospital gown and wrist band when you enter. You can also order red wine in an IV!

One of the most controversial practices at the Heart Attack Grill is the spanking. Customers who do not finish their meal receive a paddling by a nurse and offer the option of purchasing the paddle afterwards.
Customers over 350 lb (160 kg) or 25 stone in weight, eat for free at the Heart Attack Grill, you can weigh yourself for free outside!

The Heart Attack Grill opened for only 5 months in 2011 and one of their promotions was to reward customers who finish a Triple or Quadruple Bypass Burger by wheeling them out in a wheelchair to their vehicle by a ‘personal nurse’.

You may have heard about deaths at the Heart Attack Grill, in and around the restaurant. The Heart Attack Grill’s spokesman, 575-pound (261 kg) Blair River, died in 2011, aged 29, from complications of pneumonia, it is not known whether the death was caused directly from dining at the restaurant but he was a regular at the Arizona branch.
In 2012, he allegedly had a heart attack while eating a “Triple Bypass Burger” at the grill while other customers apparently took pictures while waiting for paramedics.

In the same year, a woman fell allegedly unconscious while eating a Double Bypass Burger, she was also said to have been smoking and drinking with her meal.

And in 2013, 52-year-old daily patron John Alleman, allegedly died of a heart attack at a bus stop in front of the Las Vegas restaurant after dining.

Probably the most famous and iconic sites of Las Vegas is the Bellagio Fountains. Located on 8 acres of water outside the front face of the Bellagio hotel, the fountains form a vast, choreographed water feature with scheduled performances of water, light, and music.

12) Walk through the Free Botanical Gardens in the Bellagio

Every season, great horticulturalists and designers gather to revamp the Bellagio Hotel Conservatory.

Every season of every year offers a different display and a special display is designed for Chinese New Year.

It’s good to know that 90% of the trees, flowers, and plants used in the Botanical Gardens are recycled in an effort to reduce damage to the environment.

Most of the hotels on the Las Vegas strip have full-time gardeners, but the Bellagio has 120! Gardners as well as designers, engineers and electricians work solidly behind the scenes to keep the hotel as visually appealing as possible.

17) Stroll around Paris like a Parisian

The theme of the Paris Las Vegas is, of course, the city of Paris, France. The hotel is spectacularly Parisian themed right from the decor and naming conventions to the half scale, 540-foot (164.6 m) tall replica of the Eiffel Tower.

If the main feature of the hotel doesn’t catch your eye, the shape of the Montgolfier balloon certainly will.

The hotel also has a two-third size Arc de Triomphe, a replica of La Fontaine des Mers, and a 1,200-seat theatre called Le Théâtre des Arts.

The front of the hotel on the Las Vegas strip represents the Paris Opera House and the Louvre museum. It really is a spectacular sight to take in.

18) Get snapped at the ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign

By far one of the best free things to do in Las Vegas. The ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign’ is an iconic Las Vegas landmark erected in May 1959.

If you’re wondering where to find the ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign, it is located in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, up from the strip from Mandalay Bay. It’s not particularly walkable from the main parts of the strip, but the Deuce bus will take you right there and it has its own labeled stop.

Some consider the sign to be the end of the of the Las Vegas Strip in the South.

When you get to the Las Vegas sign, you will more than likely find an enormous line of tourists waiting for their photo to be taken. Join the line and ask the volunteer photographer to take a picture with your camera. Remember, the volunteer, like most workers in America, would appreciate a tip.

Try a number of poses, the most common is the ‘jump’ or the ‘pointing.’ The photographer will encourage you to help capture that iconic moment in the most Las Vegas way.

19) See unreleased TV shows at MGM’s CBS Television City Research Center

The CBS Television City Research Center turns you into a professional TV researcher and gets you right into the network TV show process.

Hidden in the depths of the MGM Hotel and Casino, the CBS Television City offers passing visitors the chance to see new and upcoming TV programs for free in exchange for feedback on the show.

There will be somebody outside the Television City handing out leaflets asking for volunteers and you will be given a time slot of an upcoming screening to attend should you agree to stop by.

This was lots of fun and a great way to rest those feet after a long hard day wandering the Las Vegas strip.

For more information, visit the CBS Television City’s Vegas.com web page.

20) Watch a Volcano erupt at the Mirage

One of the best free things to do in Las Vegas for us was the Mirage Volcano show. A spectacular Volcano replica located right outside the Mirage Hotel and Casino includes two volcano systems, a fire filled lagoon and fire shooters that spew flames more than 12 feet into the air.

The volcano show begins with mellow music and glowing lights and follows with a life like rumbling along with the spewing of lava, which is in fact water lit by orange and red lights. The surrounding fire heats up the dazzled guests who experience a one of a kind live show at 7 pm and 8 pm every night as well as 9 pm on Saturdays.

The layers of shelving capture chocolate of all different colors and can all be seen through an enormous glass window display.

Throughout modern times, the Luxor hotel has shifted away from its predominately Egyptian theme and into the modern lounge style finish.

One of the main features of the hotel is the 42.3 billion candela Sky Beam which is the strongest beam of light in the world. On a clear night, the Sky Beam is visible for up to 275 miles (443 km) by aircraft at cruising altitude, and it has been seen from the skies of Los Angeles.

23) Admire Singing Gondoliers at the Venetian

The Venetian hotel is officially the ‘busiest hotel in the world’. The enormous 4,049 room, 3,068 suite replica of Venice in Italy, has its very own painted Michaelangelo ceilings and a canal system complete with gondoliers.

And no trip to Venice — or The Venetian — would be complete without a romantic glide down the ‘Grand Canal’ being rowed down by a Venetian gondolier.

The gondolier experience offers riders a once in a lifetime journey inside and outside of the hotel, beneath replica bridges, beside cafes, and through the vibrant Venetian streetscape, and shops, as a gondolier belts out sweet Italian opera.

Enjoy the sights of the gondoliers gliding through the canals or simply walking around. Sometimes they gather together to sing in the Venetian Palazzo shopping mall, which has a beautiful painted sky ceiling.

26) Water features at Aria

As well as being the hotel where the ‘Last Vegas’ movie was filmed starring Morgan Freeman and Michael Douglas, Aria is one of the newest hotels on the strip and therefore has a lot of incredibly modern features. Water technicians, WET, from Los Angeles, have long served the Las Vegas strip with one of a kind water features such as the Bellagio fountains and the renovation of the Mirage Volcano. WET also partnered with the Aria hotel to feature unique water designs that can be found throughout the resort and casino.

Check out Lumia, located at the entrance of Aria. The welcoming fountain features high-powered lights at the base that shine into the intersection of complex water ribbons.

WET calls the phenomena “liquid light” and when the streams collide, they produce an effect the company calls “water sparks.”

Glacia is WET’s first attempt at freezing water, and they built 15 frozen columns that protrude from a pool on the Crystals Shopping mall floor. Rods within the columns keep the structure firm and upright constantly.

Passers by can touch one of the columns and enjoy written poetry along side the feature.

One of the best free things to do in Las Vegas is, of course, attending an infamous star-studded pool party. Day and Night, entertainment promoters walk the Las Vegas strip handing out free tickets to major pool parties, particularly to female passers by. It’s true, girls do get preferential treatment in Vegas, take advantage of it if you have female company.

Not only do promoters offer free entrance to the parties, some offer girls an open bar for a couple of hours. Ask your female companion to get your drinks for you!

Some of the best pool parites in Las Vegas include Daylight at Mandalay Bay, Encore Beach Club at the Wynn Encore, Wet Republic at MGM Grand and the Marquee Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan.

Search social media for ‘Las Vegas Promoters’, one we recommend the most is ‘Darko’ who can be found on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
