Where is Mykonos and what beautiful features does it hold?

Situated in the heart of the Cyclades Islands in the Ageas Sea, between Turkey and Greece, the island is an ideal place to spend your summer. Less than 200km/125miles from Athens, Mykonos is a beautiful island with typical Cyclades architecture. It has plain and vast geography with narrow streets and whitewashed houses, the kind you’ll see in the movie Mamma Mia. You can even rent out villas like these. Here are a few things you can enjoy while you are in Mykonos

You can start with a bit of history tour. The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos offers a peek into the prehistoric to the Hellenistic period with exhibitions of vases embroidered with historical manifestations. It also has some iconic monuments for the history lovers and carries paintings regarding the capture of Troy. Not far from there is the Archaeological Site of Delos. This place has been inhabited since 3000 BC and contains a lot of historical events. We’ll leave you to visit there and find more about it, but what is essential to experience are the temples such as The Temple of the Delians, The Minoan Fountain, Terrace of the Lions and the Theatre.

Mykonos is most famous for its beaches. They are beautiful and in abundance, 25 in total. If you are a partygoer, you will love Paradise and Super Paradise beaches as they are crowded with clubs. If you are a windsurfing enthusiast, Ftelia is a must place for you to visit. Strong winds make surfing extremely fun. Since the area is mostly a secluded even in the busiest part of the year, Ftelia is a peaceful beach to enjoy a summer evening. Like most of Mykonos, it is also touched by history and has the tomb of the Ajax the Locrian, leader of Locrian in the Trojan War.

Watching the sunset is one of the most sought-after activities on this island. You will find several restaurants with rooftop seating especially designed to enjoy the sunsets. If you want to enjoy the evening in a historical setting, you should go to Castle Panigirakis which is located on a small hill and offers a fantastic sight of the sunset. To cap off your day, you should try some traditional cuisines such as Kopanisti, Ksinotiti and Tirovolia. These cheese delicacies will leave you with a beautiful aftertaste.
