Many people fantasize about leaving their daily stresses, packing their belongings, and simply spending some time exploring their homeland.
There’s plenty to see and do, whether national parks, amusement parks, scenic drives, or beautiful camping grounds.

Before you take the wheel, we’ll cover five tips for planning an epic cross-country road trip.

1. Bring a Portable Power Station

Whether camping or taking an RV, you’ll need power, especially in an off-grid location. There’s nothing like having an easy portable power station with plenty of battery storage, allowing you to power small appliances and all your devices simultaneously.

Essentially, these high-capacity battery packs are easy to carry and rechargeable, so they can last a long time as you travel the entire country. Many power stations offer a combination of DC, AC, USB-A, and USB-C outlets so you can charge almost any device or appliance.

2. Plan Out Your Route in Advance

Sort out the places you would like to go and how long you have to travel. However, don’t just decide on the quickest route from point A to point B.

While major highways can take you from one city to another, it’s essential to enjoy your trip by stopping at picturesque byways and historic streets, so you get to see the beautiful attractions your country has to offer. You’ll want to plan out the best road trip destinations and connect them.
Also, don’t just excessively drive for 10 hours per day since you won’t be able to stop to see anything along the way—plan on limiting your driving to five or six hours per day.

3. Service Your Vehicle

The worst-case scenario is that your car breaks down in the middle of the road without access to cellular networks, gas, or food. However, you can avoid getting stranded by getting your vehicle checked and serviced before heading out.

The appointment will include an oil change and safety checks on your brakes, battery, fluid levels, tire pressure, headlights, and more.
Make sure to bring an emergency kit, like flares and jumper cables, in case your car battery dies.

4. Make Bookings in Advance

Cross-country trips can be exhausting, so you’ll be anxious to get a good night’s rest. That’s why it’s crucial to have lodging reservations before leaving on your road trip. Depending on the season, hotels, campgrounds, and motels can fill up fast, especially in popular tourist areas.

5. Consider a Van or RV

While smaller vehicles offer better fuel economy, driving for long hours can be uncomfortable, especially if taking four or five travelers. Not to mention, you’ll have much less space to carry the conveniences you’re used to having.

You may want to consider going with a large van or RV. An RV can provide everything you need for your cross-country road trip all in one place, giving you the thrill of the open road but the comforts of home. While they’re more expensive, you won’t have to worry about finding a hotel. If you’re new to RV travel, there are many things to consider, such as finding the right rental provider.

Wrapping It Up
While this is by no means an exhaustive list, it’ll help you get started. Other planning tips you’ll want to consider include budgeting, entertainment options, and even food.
However, ensure you have the essentials covered, such as route planning, power needs, and vehicle.
Once you’ve finished your planning, you’re ready to hit the road!
